Meet the Models: Christina Clements
Meet the Models: Christina’s Story – Seasoned, Strong, and Still Standing
For those who’ve been a part of Runway for Recovery over the years, Christina is a familiar face—and a powerful presence. A seasoned model and a resilient advocate, she returns to the stage this year not only to represent her own story, but to stand alongside others navigating the ever-evolving path of survivorship.
A Diagnosis Far from Home
Christina’s breast cancer diagnosis was made even more difficult by geography—she and her family were stationed on the island of Guam when she received the devastating news.
“My kids were just 8 and 5. We were so far away from everyone. I was in shock. I was devastated.”
The distance from family and a familiar support system added another layer of fear and uncertainty. But even thousands of miles away, help found its way to her.
A Lifeline to Care
“My cousin’s husband, Ray, is a radiation oncologist at Brigham and Women’s. He helped me set up a team at Dana-Farber when I returned to the States. He even sat with me during radiation and hospital stays when COVID restrictions kept my family away.”
Christina’s story is one of people showing up—sometimes unexpectedly, but always exactly when she needed it. Her mother stepped in for appointments, meals, and child care, and one of her friends, knowing Christina would never ask for help, set up a meal train anyway—with DoorDash gift cards included.
“I’m not one to accept help easily. My friend knew I would say no, so she just did it. I love her for that. It was the best—just not having to think about meals.”
Treatment, Trust, and Tailoring a Plan
One of the biggest lessons Christina learned was how much cancer care varies—and how important it is to find a plan that feels right for you.
“My treatment in the States was vastly different than what I would have had if I stayed in Guam. And I’ve learned that everyone’s cancer and everyone’s body is different. What works for one person won’t always work for another.”
Christina credits her peace of mind to building a treatment team she trusted and taking one step at a time.
“I didn’t start to feel better until I had a plan. Once that was in place, I could breathe again.”
Why She Walks
Christina walks not just because she’s a survivor—but because she knows that cancer doesn’t end with treatment. She’s been in and out of appointments, hospital stays, and setbacks. Through it all, she’s kept showing up—with courage, style, and humor.
“Sometimes we just need to get all those feelings out. No judgment. Just love and support.”
Being part of Runway for Recovery means returning to a space of celebration and solidarity, where Christina can keep telling her story—and keep reminding others that they’re not alone.
