Katie Couric to Model in The 2nd Annual Runway Show, New York City on 4/30/26

Spotlight Model, Runway Show, NYC

As Runway for Recovery enters its 20th year, there are moments that remind us just how far this community has come — and why this work continues to matter so deeply.

We are incredibly honored to announce Katie Couric as our Spotlight Model for the 2nd Annual Runway Show: New York City on April 30, 2026 at Pier 60, Chelsea Piers.

Katie’s impact on cancer advocacy spans decades. Following the loss of her husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998, she became a transformative force in raising awareness around early detection and prevention — an effort widely credited with dramatically increasing colonoscopy rates nationwide, often referred to as “the Katie Couric effect.” Through her reporting, public advocacy, and personal storytelling, she has consistently used her platform to shine a light on cancer prevention and research.

In 2008, after her own breast cancer diagnosis, Katie once again chose transparency over privacy — publicly sharing her journey to encourage screening, education, and proactive care. Her openness helped normalize conversations around breast health and survivorship, offering strength and reassurance to countless women navigating similar experiences.

Katie is also the co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), an initiative that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research and foster collaboration across institutions. Her work continues today through journalism, film, and advocacy that elevates patient voices and pushes forward innovation in cancer treatment and prevention.

It is this unwavering commitment to storytelling, awareness, and action that makes her participation in Runway for Recovery especially meaningful.

The Runway Show has always been about more than fashion. It is about creating space for voices to be seen and heard. It is about honoring journeys — the strength of survivors, the love of caregivers, and the resilience of families facing breast cancer. Katie’s decision to step onto the Runway stage reflects the very heart of what this community stands for.

On April 30, she will stand alongside 85 remarkable models, each sharing their own story in a room of more than 800 supporters, united by purpose. It will be a powerful evening of courage, connection, and collective impact.
