Meet the Models: Jenna Auber

Jenn Auber
In 2014, Jenna walked in Runway for Recovery just a month after completing treatment. “That was sort of icing on the cake for me,” she says. Not to mention a cameo by her mother Susan, also a survivor. “She almost brought me to tears when she stood up and yelled, ‘That’s my girl!’”
Jenna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, when her two sons (“very active little guys”) were 1 and 4.“The hardest part going through treatment was not being the kind of mom I wanted to be,” she says. But this is one tough cookie. Jenna, an ER nurse, trained for a 100-mile bike ride throughout her recovery, completing it November 2013. But what surprised her was what came after treatment. “The transition from treatment to moving forward really caught me off guard,” says Jenna. “Going through treatment people come out of the woodwork – after, it can be lonely.”
Jenna’s walk in 2014 marked a new anniversary, and arrived after a happy summer spent at the beach with her husband Papis and sons Samba and Ousainou, who delighted in “digging in the dirt, burying themselves. And we garden. This is the first year we’ve done it – kale and beets and lettuce and tomatoes cabbage. Beans. It’s a labor of love.” At Runway’s 8th year, she said, she walked to mark a new chapter. “And after having such a phenomenal experience I couldn’t miss out again.”
