Howard Cohen’s Story
20th Anniversary Boston Model, Legacy Model
Why are you walking the Runway this year?
Howard Cohen is walking the Runway in support of his sister, Emily, and his step-mother, Linda Cohen, who passed away in 2003.
“Emily Cohen is a fierce advocate for breast cancer survivors,” Howard shares. “She herself is a pre-vivor, after seeing her mother and other relatives suffer and pass away from the disease.”
These experiences have shaped Emily's commitment to helping other families affected by breast cancer.
What has Emily's work with Runway meant to your family?
Emily first walked the Runway in 2012 and 2013 and has remained part of the community ever since.
She became a Runway family grant reader in 2019 and began serving as a family liaison volunteer in 2021.
When Emily learned there was a gap in tuition assistance for families facing breast cancer, she stepped in to help cover the unmet need.
She later created the Linda K. Cohen Tuition Fund in memory of her mother. The fund provides additional tuition assistance through high school for family grant recipients facing extreme circumstances.
What are we celebrating this year?
This year, Howard is celebrating his sister and the work she continues to do for families facing breast cancer.
He is also honoring his step-mother, Linda, whose legacy lives on through the tuition fund Emily created in her name.
For Howard, the reason for walking is simple.
“I am thrilled to support her in all the ways I can on this journey.”
