Sona’s Story

SoCal Model, Completed Treatment

Meet the Models, SoCal: Sona

When Sona was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2018, the news came at a time when life was full—two young sons, a demanding legal career, and a growing family business she was helping to scale from behind the scenes. But beneath the busyness, her body had been whispering that something was wrong.

It started with a lump. It moved. It changed. It didn’t seem urgent—until it was.

A biopsy at UCI revealed Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Metaplastic Squamous Cell Type, a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. It had already spread to her lymph nodes, and treatment had to begin immediately.

Sona approached her diagnosis with the same tenacity she brought to every part of her life. She and her husband developed a comprehensive strategy that combined conventional medicine—six months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy with lymph node removal, and radiation—with a carefully researched functional wellness plan. Sona began a ketogenic diet, strict intermittent fasting, and added targeted supplements—all designed to help her body withstand treatment and heal more fully afterward.

“She never wanted to be seen as the ‘sick person,’” her husband shared. “She was still a mother, a wife, a lawyer—none of that changed.”

Sona kept working, parenting, volunteering, and even filled in to give a fitness presentation when her husband couldn’t make it. No one in the room knew she had been in chemo just the day before.

Though her strength amazed those around her, she also navigated moments of grief and uncertainty. Surgery was grueling. Radiation was exhausting. But still, she showed up—for her kids, for her team, and for herself.

And on her final day of treatment, she made a promise to herself: to live boldly, visibly, and vibrantly.

“Hey everybody! I’m okay.”

Now, years later, Sona is thriving—stronger, healthier, and more grounded than ever. She continues to combine fitness, nutrition, and joyful living with ongoing vigilance about her health. Her story reminds us that cancer can be an unexpected detour—but with love, knowledge, and relentless courage, you can find your way back to yourself.
