Maria’s Story
NYC Model, Currently in Treatment (stage 0-3)
On November 7, 2025, Maria Puppolo received the news that would change the course of her life: she had breast cancer. The diagnosis felt surreal.
“I was in disbelief. This could not be happening to me. It was unimaginable.”
In the early days after hearing the news, Maria describes feeling numb and overwhelmed, trying to process a reality that seemed impossible. As the shock settled, waves of emotion followed.
“At first I was numb. Now I find myself crying a lot. It’s a very emotional roller coaster ride.”
Despite the fear and uncertainty, Maria holds firmly to one belief — that she will come through this chapter as a survivor. She knows life may never look exactly the same as it once did, but she is determined to face the road ahead with courage, faith, and purpose.
Throughout this difficult moment, Maria has leaned on the people and values that ground her: close friends, deep faith, and her own inner strength. She has also found comfort in the kindness of those she has met along the way.
“So many people have been genuinely supportive. They listened and comforted me. I felt heard.”
For Maria, discovering Runway for Recovery felt like finding a spark of light during a dark time. As someone who loves modeling and has walked in fashion shows in her hometown, the opportunity to participate in the Runway show represents something powerful: a chance to feel strong, confident, and connected to other women facing similar battles.
“This empowering program will lift my spirits and bring me closer to supporting others who are going through this.”
Maria hopes that by sharing her story she can help other women who now join her as “pink sisters,” reminding them that they are not alone.
Her advice to anyone newly diagnosed is simple, but deeply heartfelt:
“First breathe. You will get through it. It’s not an easy road, but trust in yourself, your providers, and a higher being.”
As Maria steps into 2026, she knows the year will bring both challenges and triumphs. But she also knows she won’t face it alone.
“Together we can support each other, heal together, and thrive together.”
Maria will be on the Runway in New York on April 30th, and she will dressed and styled by Frances Valentine.
