Lisa’s Story

NYC Model, Completed Treatment

Lisa Ramirez's breast cancer journey is grounded in something simple, but powerful: resilience.

Diagnosed on October 5, 2025, her experience with cancer has shaped the way she sees herself and the world around her—but it has also strengthened her in ways she carries forward every day.

“It made me resilient,” she shared, “and empowered me to help others on their journey.”

From the very beginning, Lisa leaned into the guidance of her care team. One moment that stands out clearly for her was her conversation with her doctor.

“Dr. Ojo and his recommendation on the way forward,” she said, reflecting on what helped ground her in those early days.

In a time filled with uncertainty, having a clear path—and someone she trusted to guide her—made all the difference.

As she moved through treatment, Lisa experienced both the expected and the unexpected.

“I did not become nauseous during my chemo treatment,” she shared as a positive reflection—something she was grateful for. But there were also moments that caught her off guard.

“I lost hair in clumps during my treatment, which surprised me.”

Like so many women, it was these physical changes—sudden and visible—that added another layer to an already challenging experience.

Through it all, support became a constant.

Her family stood by her, alongside close friends and the people she worked with.

“My employers, Jennifer and Adam, and my friend Kathryn,” she shared, naming those who showed up for her in meaningful ways.

One of the most impactful forms of support came from her workplace.

“My employer allowed me the time to digest what was happening and was fully supportive throughout the journey.”

That kind of understanding—being given space, time, and compassion—helped her navigate the emotional weight of her diagnosis while continuing to move forward.

Lisa is clear about what matters most when someone is going through cancer.

“Continuous and overall support helps throughout the process,” she said. “Let them know you are always there to provide support where needed.”

It’s not about one moment or one gesture—it’s about showing up, again and again.

Her advice to others reflects the trust she placed in her own care.

“Try not to be alarmed,” she shared. “Have faith in your doctor and stick with their recommendations.”

It’s a steady, grounded perspective—one that comes from having walked through the experience herself.

Now, as she reflects on where she is today, this year holds special meaning.

She is celebrating of navigating everything cancer has brought into her life—a milestone that represents strength, endurance, and growth.

Lisa’s journey is not defined by what she lost, but by what she gained: resilience, perspective, and a deep commitment to supporting others walking a similar path.

Her story is a reminder that while cancer changes you, it can also reveal a strength within you that you carry forward—for yourself, and for those who come after you.
