Kaitlin’s Story

NYC Model, Completed Treatment for Breast Cancer

Kaitlin Kelly was just 32 years old when she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer—a moment that instantly changed the course of her life. What once felt predictable and full of everyday plans quickly became consumed by fear, uncertainty, and a path she never imagined she would have to walk.

Her diagnosis came on November 14, 2023, and like so many, everything moved fast.

“I read the pathology results myself… and the moment I realized what they meant, I felt completely overwhelmed.”

What she remembers most clearly from that moment wasn’t just the shock—but who was beside her.

“I remember sitting there next to my mom… she hugged me and held me while I cried. In that moment, her presence was the only thing grounding me.”

From that day forward, Kaitlin stepped into a grueling treatment plan—fertility preservation, followed by 16 rounds of chemotherapy, then surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy. The physical toll was immense, but the emotional weight was just as heavy.

“Each treatment left me drained, both physically and emotionally. I learned to fight even when everything in me wanted to give up.”

One of the most unexpected challenges was the intensity of the fatigue.

“It wasn’t just being tired. It was a deep, persistent exhaustion… there were days when it was hard to move, hard to breathe.”

And yet, through every appointment, every scan, and every difficult moment, she was never alone.

“My parents were with me at every single appointment… every blood draw, every scan, every treatment.”

Her brothers created a sense of comfort at home. Her fiancé stood beside her with unwavering love. And her community—through small, thoughtful gestures—helped carry her through.

“There were days when I felt like I had nothing left… but they were always there to lift me back up.”

Through it all, Kaitlin discovered a strength she didn’t know she had.

“I didn’t feel like I had a choice—I simply had to keep going. But looking back, I realize how strong I really was.”

Her journey didn’t just change her body—it reshaped how she sees her life.

“I learned not to postpone the things that bring me joy… to celebrate milestones, big or small.”

Today, as she approaches two years since completing treatment, Kaitlin continues to navigate survivorship with honesty and gratitude.

“Recovery isn’t just physical—it’s emotional, mental, and spiritual. Some days are still hard. But every day I wake up is a reminder of what I’ve overcome.”

This year holds special meaning—not just because of what she’s survived, but because of what she’s building.

Newly engaged and having recently purchased her first home, Kaitlin is stepping into a future she fought hard to reach—one grounded in resilience, love, and perspective.

Her advice to others facing a diagnosis reflects the same strength that carried her through:

“Take everything one step at a time. Lean on the people who love you… you are stronger than you think.”

And for those supporting someone through cancer, she offers a powerful reminder:

“Your love, your presence… it creates a comfort and strength beyond what you can imagine.”

Kaitlin’s story is one of endurance, of being carried when she couldn’t carry herself, and of discovering that even in the darkest moments, there is strength waiting to rise.

And now, standing on the other side of treatment, she continues forward—stronger, more grounded, and deeply aware of the life she is living and rebuilding each day.
