JLynn’s Story
NYC Model, Completed Treatment
JLynn McCarty was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on June 3, 2023—a moment that shifted everything in an instant.
“I remember having a sense of calm before what felt like dissociation as the surgeon said he couldn’t save my breast or nipple.”
At the same time, she was navigating a divorce and a move, and without a strong support system around her, she was forced to turn inward in a way she never had before. What could have been an isolating and overwhelming chapter instead became the foundation for a deep and intentional relationship with herself.
Her treatment path led her to a double mastectomy without reconstruction due to complications with a sensitive immune system. While the experience was physically and emotionally challenging, JLynn stands firmly in her decision and the life it has given her.
“My experience was challenging but overall the best for my overall health.” Today, she lives proudly as a flat woman, grounded in a confidence that came not from external validation, but from within. “Even though I wasn’t a candidate for reconstruction, I love being flat & happy.”
Throughout her journey, JLynn created her own version of support. She took herself out on dates, practiced self-love with intention, and found ways to stay balanced during one of the most difficult seasons of her life. She reflects that while some people showed up with cards and small gestures, much of her strength came from learning to be there for herself consistently. That lesson now shapes the way she encourages others.
“Reach out for support—and if you find none, become it for yourself. Perseverance pays off. Self-love anchors you through it.”
As she approaches three years since her diagnosis and double mastectomy in 2026, JLynn views her journey not as something that took from her, but something that transformed her.
“It shaped my world for the better.”
Her story is a powerful reminder that even in isolation, there is strength—and that healing can look like reclaiming your body, your confidence, and your life on your own terms.
