Meet the Models, SoCal: Michaela Moreno Luna
Michaela Moreno Luna got the shock of a lifetime when a doctors appointment for a misshapen breast led to the discovery she was pregnant. Even more shocking was she also had breast cancer. At 40 years old, Michaela had accepted children might not be a part of her story, but she certainly never anticipated a pregnancy during cancer treatment.
She would go on to have chemo during pregnancy, but would not be able to receive basic imagining and testing due to safety concerns: “It was very anxiety producing because we didn’t know if my cancer had spread because you cannot get mammograms, PET scans and more while pregnant.”
After giving birth to her son, she would take about two weeks off from treatment before completing it. Now on hormone suppression for 10 years, Michaela is quick to note that though she may appear ok, but that doesn’t mean she is: “I want there to be a conversation that, do I look a certain way? Yes. Does that mean my cancer is gone? No. I have to do things daily to ensure there continues to be no evidence of disease and at the end of the day, it feels like just hoping to beat the clock and reach each milestone where cancer doesn’t appear again.”
