Crystal Davis Named Recipient of the 2026 Ilene Beal Legacy of Leadership Award

Runway for Recovery is proud to announce Crystal Davis as the recipient of the 2026 Ilene Beal Legacy of Leadership Award.

Established with the support of the Ilene Beal Foundation, this annual award honors an individual who embodies Ilene Beal's extraordinary legacy of leadership, generosity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to lifting others. It recognizes those who use their influence to create meaningful change, champion equity, and empower others to lead.

Crystal exemplifies that legacy in every sense.

A registered nurse in the Neuro ICU at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Crystal is recognized not only for her clinical excellence, but for the extraordinary compassion she brings to every patient she serves. Her remarkable care earned her the prestigious DAISY Award, one of nursing's highest honors. A patient who nominated Crystal wrote:

"Crystal truly demonstrated compassion and care for me, a total stranger. She made the whole experience less scary... She listened to me and made me feel very comfortable. I believe Crystal is a perfect role model for how every nurse should strive to be."

Those same qualities define Crystal's leadership within Runway for Recovery. She has an extraordinary ability to make people feel safe, welcomed, and never alone.

After initially having her own concerns dismissed before being diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer, Crystal made it her mission to ensure other women would never hesitate to advocate for themselves. She has become a passionate voice for early detection and breast cancer awareness, particularly within Black and Brown communities, courageously sharing her story to address disparities in diagnosis and outcomes while empowering women to trust their instincts and seek care without delay.

Crystal first modeled with Runway for Recovery in 2013, and over the past decade has become one of the organization's most influential leaders. As a longtime Board member, she has helped shape the future of Runway while leading efforts to create a more welcoming and representative community. Through her leadership, the representation of women of color on the Boston Runway grew from 7% to 38% in just one year, helping ensure more women see themselves reflected in the Runway experience. She also played an instrumental role in developing Runway's Model Mentor Program, ensuring every new model feels supported, celebrated, and connected from the moment she joins the community.

Crystal's leadership is deeply personal. She is often the first to welcome a new model, the first to volunteer when help is needed, and the first to say yes whenever Runway calls. Every year, her family and friends fill the audience as the beloved "Crystal Cheer Section," a joyful reflection of the countless lives she has touched through kindness, generosity, and authentic connection.

Those who nominated Crystal described her as "a role model, beacon, and leader for Runway," while another wrote that she has "transformed her experience into a powerful force for good, ensuring others are seen, heard, and supported." Her advocacy, compassion, and unwavering commitment to equity have strengthened Runway for Recovery and inspired hundreds of women to embrace their own stories.

Crystal's journey has inspired the Runway community for many years. We invite you to watch her share her story from both her 2018 and 2022 Runway appearances:

Crystal Davis leads with courage, humility, and heart. Through her advocacy, mentorship, and steadfast commitment to equity, she has created lasting change that will benefit generations to come. Her legacy reflects the very values Ilene Beal championed: using leadership not for personal recognition, but to open doors, lift others, and leave every community stronger than she found it.

We are honored to celebrate Crystal Davis as the recipient of the 2026 Ilene Beal Legacy of Leadership Award during our 20th Anniversary Runway Show on October 29, 2026.
