FAQs
Below you will find answers to many of the questions that models have when they first get nominated. Please keep in mind that this is information for our LIVE events. Our 2020 event will be held virtually, and so please reach out for more information. As we get closer to the event in October, we will link you to FAQs about the day-of event as well. And always feel free to be in touch with our model coordinators, Tory Bois and Ty Webber if you have additional questions. Thank you so much for joining the Runway Family.
Runway models are people who are fighting breast cancer, people who have survived breast cancer, or the children of those who have lost their lives to the disease. Over the years models have walked with their own children, their sisters, and their friends. Even if someone you know doesn't fit perfectly into the categories listed above, please do not hesitate to nominate someone that you know who would like a night to honor their story and connection to breast cancer.
Please send your nominations to runwayforrecovery@me.com
In your nomination please include:

How did you find out about Runway:
Around February 1 every year we send out a congratulatory email to welcome in our newest group of Runway models!
A Runway model will participate in the October Fashion Show and will carry the cause of Runway with her/him throughout the year in a variety of ways.
In preparation for the fashion show, Runway models will submit 5 photographs to be used during the show (2MB jpegs size images). In addition, a model will provide Runway with a list of guests to invite to the fashion show. And during the months of April - June, Runway models are invited to the Newburyport office to have their headshot taken in order for Runway to tell their story on social media and on our website.
We require Runway models to participate in our organization's mission, which is to fund families who have lost a mom/dad to breast cancer through through peer-to-peer fundraising. There is no minimum amount required to fundraise, but every model must create a fundraising page (we provide you with the details), and invite their community to support them. Since the event is free to models, and we have over 100 models who participate, our hope is that people try to fundraise the costs to cover their ticket price.
We also include all models in a welcome reception in the spring, and we offer a few get-togethers throughout the year so that models can get to know one another. Once you've been a model for a year, you are invited to our annual Recovery Retreat, free of charge.
Our closed Facebook group is also an incredible virtual community to become involved in as it will allow you to meet other models and hear their stories. https://www.facebook.com/groups/runwayforrecovery/
In the late summer, a model will be assigned a store to work with in order to get fitted for the fashion show.
The model team at Runway works hard to get to know our models' style and size preferences, and, ultimately, the team uses this information to make the best match with the stores that we work with. Once we match all of our models to local stores, we email the list of the matches to all models and stores. Models shop for their outfits the two weeks prior to the event in October.
During the two weeks leading up to the event, the models will visit their assigned boutiques and try on their outfits.
Each model will set-up her own "team" or "individual" fundraising page. We have found that many of the friends of models over the years want to show their love directly to the model, and so were thrilled to launch an easy to use platform last year. Last year's models collectively raised $60,000! It was an incredible effort -- some raised $2000+ and some raised $200. Everything is so appreciated and for the most part, we are hoping that you'll help us grow our network so that we can support other people affected by breast cancer.
You can then share the link of your team/individual page with anyone you'd like -- on social media, through emails, or by text message.
Alex Hanken is a volunteer for Runway who is happy to help set this page up with you, and Olivia will also help models during the one-on-one meeting in Newburyport.
There is no minimum requirement to be a Runway for Recovery model.
Models can email us a list of his/her friends and family they'd like to attend the event. The Runway team will happily send out invitations!
No, models do not have to pay for their tickets.
We have a variety of seating options available including a VIP front row seat, regular admissions tickets, a pack of four tickets called "Cande's Circle" tickets which are discounted.
Our model team at Runway works incredibly hard to create a seamless schedule for models to get both their hair and makeup done. This is a donated service, so we work around the incredible team of stylists and artists who volunteer their time to get our models looking fabulous. Models' conflicts are taken into account and honored as much as possible. We usually begin appointments around 2:00 p.m.
Models need to provide a list of friends/family they'd like invitations sent to, their clothing sizes, 5 photographs of their choosing to be displayed during their walk, and finally, their headshot and story that we can share on social media.
Confirmation of participation is due March 1
We would like models to meet one-on-one in Newburyport* sometime between April 1 and June 30.
Guest lists are due May 1 -- first and last name, email, mailing address.
5 Pictures are due at meeting in Newburyport or no later than June 30.
Size for clothing is due July 1
Timing for arrival to event is due September 1
*If you are unable to find a time between April 1 - June 30 in Newburyport, Olivia can occasionally meet models in a different location. The headshot will not necessarily look the same as everyone else's; however, do not let the distance to Newburyport be a factor in deciding if you'd like to model. We can make anything work!
Many times a year there are donors who give money so that we can offer discounted ticket to models' friends. Please be in touch with Meggie Patterson if you have any questions about this request.
We begin our hair and make-up at 2:00 on the day of the event.
A required dress rehearsal begins at 4:00.
We'd love if models would follow Runway on...
