SUMMARY:Play for Runway: The Chapin School
DESCRIPTION:The Chapin School is Playing for Runway! \nThis Breast Cancer Awareness Month\, the captains of Chapin’s fall sports teams are bringing their school community together once again to Play for Runway — turning athletics into meaningful support for families navigating metastatic breast cancer and the loss of a parent. \nChapin’s connection to Runway began with a student reaching out to another student. In 2022\, Savannah Phillips introduced Play for Runway to Chapin. Savannah had grown up in the Runway community after watching her mom go through breast cancer treatment when she was just three years old\, and she wanted to give other young people a way to use their teams and communities to make a difference. \nChapin took that idea and ran with it. In 2023\, all six fall teams joined together for the school’s first Play for Runway\, with captains and coaches helping lead the effort across cross country\, field hockey\, soccer\, tennis\, and volleyball. \nAnd what this community has accomplished is incredible. \nIn just two years of Playing for Runway\, Chapin has raised $19\,611.83 — $9\,046.51 in 2023 and $10\,565.32 in 2024 — to support the families Runway serves. \nNow\, Chapin is bringing Play for Runway back\, led by the captains of its fall sports teams. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month\, these student leaders will rally their teammates and school community to honor those impacted by breast cancer while raising critical funds for families facing metastatic or terminal breast cancer\, or grieving the loss of a parent to the disease. \nFunds raised help Runway provide direct financial assistance and a community of support\, helping families with groceries\, household expenses\, tutoring\, camps\, sports\, activities\, and other needs that keep children supported during an incredibly difficult time. \nWe are so to the Chapin captains\, coaches\, athletes\, and families who have made Play for Runway their own. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Rally for Runway ride at SoulCycle Georgetown\, hosted by Runway for Recovery Model and George Washington University senior Charlotte Goodman\, alongside Runway for Recovery Young Professional Advisory Board member Nya Gavin. \nRunway for Recovery has been part of Charlotte’s family for years. Her mom\, Liz Silverman\, is a breast cancer survivor and longtime Runway Model\, and Charlotte grew up seeing firsthand the power of a community that shows up for families impacted by breast cancer. Now\, during her senior year at GW\, she is bringing that community to Washington\, DC. \nCharlotte will be joined by Nya Gavin\, who also grew up on the Runway. Nya modeled alongside her mother\, Crystal Davis\, and witnessed the incredible strength her mother showed throughout her breast cancer diagnosis. \nTogether\, Charlotte and Nya represent the next generation of Runway for Recovery—young women who grew up surrounded by this community and are now finding their own ways to carry its mission forward. \nOn Saturday\, October 24\, we’ll fill the SoulCycle Georgetown studio for an inspirational ride with a purpose. Together\, we’ll move\, celebrate survivors\, honor those we love\, and raise critical funds for families navigating the realities of breast cancer. \nGrab a bike\, bring a friend\, and Rally with Charlotte\, Nya\, and the DC community.
