DESCRIPTION:This October\, the entire Imperial Middle School community is Playing for Runway! \nStudents\, families\, and staff are coming together throughout the month to raise funds for Runway for Recovery and support families impacted by breast cancer. Imperial is turning Breast Cancer Awareness Month into a school-wide effort\, with a classroom fundraising competition\, proceeds from the snack shack at home volleyball and flag football games\, a local dine-out event\, marquee shoutouts\, and more opportunities for students to get involved. \nRunway for Recovery provides meaningful financial and emotional support to families navigating metastatic breast cancer or the passing of a parent from breast cancer. Through its Family Grants Program\, Runway helps cover real expenses that keep families moving forward — from rent and groceries to therapy\, summer camp\, sports\, dance\, music lessons\, and other extracurricular activities for children. \nEvery contribution from the Imperial community will help Runway provide that support to families who need it. \nJoin Imperial Middle School this October\, make a gift\, and help our entire school Play for Runway! \nDonate

DESCRIPTION:East Whittier Middle School is Playing for Runway! \nOn October 1\, East Whittier Middle School will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month by turning its Fall Sports Pep Rally into a special Pink Out benefiting Runway for Recovery. \nLed by the school’s ASB/Leadership students\, the East Whittier community will come together in pink to raise awareness\, honor people in their lives who have been impacted by breast cancer\, and raise funds for families navigating metastatic breast cancer and the loss of a parent. \nStudents will incorporate Play for Runway into the pep rally through pink shirts and signs where they can share the names of people they are participating in honor of or in memory of. They will also learn more about Runway’s work and the Southern California families their fundraising will directly help support. \nFunds raised will help Runway for Recovery provide direct financial assistance and a community of support to families facing metastatic or terminal breast cancer\, or grieving the loss of a parent to the disease. It is a celebration of those who have been impacted by breast cancer\, a tribute to those we have lost\, and a powerful reminder that no family should face breast cancer alone. \nAnd this year’s Model class gives us so much to celebrate. \n70 extraordinary Models from across the country will come together in Huntington Beach\, each bringing their own story and their own connection to breast cancer. \nAmong this year’s Models: \n\n30 have completed treatment for breast cancer\n22 are currently in active treatment for Stage 0–3 breast cancer\n11 are living with metastatic breast cancer\n5 will dance in memory of someone they have lost to breast cancer\n2 are previvors\n\nOur Models are traveling from across the country to be part of this community\, with 28 Models from California and others joining us from more than 20 states and Washington\, D.C. \nWe are also incredibly proud that 44% of this year’s Model class identifies as Models of color\, including 19% who identify as Black or African American.
