DESCRIPTION:Pentucket Field Hockey is Playing for Runway!\nOn Friday\, October 23\, Pentucket Field Hockey will Play for Runway for the fourth year — continuing a tradition that began with one family’s firsthand experience with breast cancer and has grown into something this team has made its own. \nThe connection began through Newburyport Field Hockey coach Shannon Haley and her mom\, Pentucket’s legendary longtime field hockey coach\, Ruth Beaton. Ruth led the Pentucket program for more than three decades and was named United States Field Hockey Coach of the Year before stepping down following the 2024 season. \nFor Shannon and Ruth\, the impact of breast cancer was deeply personal. They watched their cousin\, Amy Burke\, face a breast cancer diagnosis and saw firsthand how her local communities rallied around Amy and her family. Amy would later become one of the four inaugural members of Runway for Recovery’s Boston Marathon team\, turning the support she experienced into an opportunity to help other families impacted by breast cancer. \nThat experience helped inspire Pentucket’s Play for Runway tradition\, and four years later\, it continues. \nUnder head coach Rachel Thornton\, the Pentucket Field Hockey team has chosen to carry it forward — using a sport and community they love to help families facing metastatic or terminal breast cancer\, or grieving the loss of a parent to the disease. \nTogether\, Pentucket Field Hockey has already raised $4\,559.11 for Runway for Recovery. \nOn October 23\, the team will once again take the field in honor of the people in their own lives who have been impacted by breast cancer\, while raising funds to provide direct financial assistance\, resources\, and connection to Runway families. \nFriday\, October 23\nPentucket Field Hockey\nFourth Annual Play for Runway\n$4\,559.11 raised to date \nWe are so impressed by this team’s commitment to carrying the tradition forward under Coach Rachel Thornton\, and so grateful to Shannon\, Ruth\, Amy\, and the entire Pentucket community. DESCRIPTION:Rally with Tread on Sunday\, October 25 for a full day of movement\, strength\, community\, and giving back in support of Runway for Recovery. \nTread was founded by Lori Haverty around a simple but powerful belief: “We can do hard things.” It is a mission that extends far beyond a workout and into the community Lori and her team have built — one that shows up for one another when life gets hard. That spirit is exactly what inspired Lori to bring Rally for Runway to Tread. \nOn October 25\, Tread on East will turn both of its fitness rooms into a full-day Rally for Runway\, with donation-based classes including two PRESS all-strength classes\, Pilates\, and multiple cycle/spin classes. All proceeds will support Runway for Recovery. \nThe day will extend beyond the workouts\, too. DESCRIPTION:Dana Hall School is Playing for Runway! \nThis October\, the Dana Hall community is coming together once again to Play for Runway — marking five years of partnership with Runway for Recovery. Over the past four years alone\, Dana Hall has raised more than $7\,000 for Runway\, turning its fall athletic tradition into meaningful support for the families we serve. \nOn October 30 & 31\, during Family Weekend\, nearly 200 Dana Hall fall athletes\, coaches\, and managers will participate\, bringing Play for Runway across the school’s fall athletic programs. \nThis partnership has an especially meaningful beginning. It grew from the involvement of Runway model\, Board member\, and Dana Hall alumna Emily Cohen\, who created the Linda Cohen Educational Fund in memory of her mother. Through that fund and Emily’s personal generosity\, more than $42\,000 in educational payments have been made on behalf of Runway families — helping children continue participating in school\, tutoring\, academic enrichment\, and other opportunities during incredibly difficult times. \nThat connection between education\, young people\, and helping children keep doing the things they love makes Dana Hall’s commitment to Play for Runway especially meaningful. Over the years\, the program has also become a student-led tradition\, with Dana Hall captains taking ownership of sharing Runway’s mission and the meaning behind their games with their peers and community. \nFunds raised through Play for Runway support families facing metastatic or terminal breast cancer\, or grieving the loss of a parent to the disease.
