DESCRIPTION:The Rivers School is back for its second year of Play for Runway—and this year\, they are going BIG! \nLed by students Quincy and Talia and the Rivers Cancer Awareness Club\, the school is bringing together its fall athletic teams for a series of Play for Runway games benefiting Runway for Recovery. Volleyball is kicking things off\, with teams across Rivers joining throughout the fall to raise funds and awareness for families impacted by breast cancer. \nAnd there’s a little friendly competition involved! Each participating Rivers team will have its own fundraising page\, with every dollar counting toward both the team’s total and the overall Rivers School campaign. At the end\, we’ll see which team can raise the most for Runway families. \nThe Rivers Volleyball Team will host its Play for Runway game on Friday\, September 18. This year’s event will once again gather our community along the waterfront for a night that is both celebratory and deeply inspiring. \nThe evening will feature a moving program of speakers\, including a return of past voices who have helped shape this event\, alongside new stories that continue to expand its impact. \nThis year’s speakers include five years of Love for Runway speakers: \nMarci Eiserman\, Shauna Epstein\, Alissa Christie\, Renee Plozdik\, Julie Clemente\, Amy Burke\, Alivia Collette\, and Lori Levans.  \nAnd new this year\, we will hear from Dorothy Burnham\, a local mother of two boys who will reflect on her experience of receiving a diagnosis when her sons were very young\, and the community that has encircled her since. \nGuests will also enjoy a “Taste of Newburyport\,” where some of the area’s most beloved restaurants will offer curated small bites—creating a unique culinary experience and a perfect way to discover local favorites for the summer ahead. Their stories are a meaningful reminder of why this work matters and the impact we can have together. \nThe evening will feature food and drinks from The Cheese Shop\, Fiorella’s\, Saltbox Kitchen\, All Aboard Cheese & More\, Sweet Botanicals Bakes\, and Cheers on Wheels\, plus music from the Evan Fosley Band and shopping along Walden Street with local favorites including Holiday\, Happy on Main\, The Dottied i\, Sara Campbell\, French Lessons\, Thoreauly Antiques\, the Concord Fire Department\, and Blue Dry Goods. Both of their stories will surely leave us inspired. \nThis year\, there will be a special kid-focused part of the day called “Love for Mom” on Inn Street from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. It is a time for kids to grab cute and personalized gifts for Mom!  \n\nLive painting with G.S. Chaisson (20 spots available\, ticket required)\nQuickie photograph with Plum + Port Photography and Frame Decorating with Pinwheels (20 spots available\, ticket required)\nPersonalize Stanley cups\, and more.\nBuy Flowers from Amy McLaughlin flower cart\nGrab a Joppa Pot from local vendor\nFace Painting\nGames\nShop around town at all of the supporting businesses who are donating to R4R (see list below)\n\nAt 6:30 p.m. Inn Street becomes the ticketed event\, Love Local.
